PROBE is open to all healthcare professionals and trainees. This includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and dental assistants, physical therapists, chiropractors, medical students, residents and others. Every session is multi-disciplinary.

There are many situations in which a new perspective on ethics and boundaries can make a difference. Ethics and boundaries breaches are more common that you might think, and some may surprise you. Here are just a few examples of situations that PROBE can address:  

• Sexual misconduct
• Misrepresentation or falsification of credentials
• Drug diversion
• Financial irregularities
• Dual relationships
• Failure to adequately inform patients in obtaining consent
• Inappropriate use of social media

For healthcare professionals who have completed the PROBE Seminar with and are seeking ongoing support with identified behavior change goals.

The PROBE Program includes a 2.5-day Seminar, plus pre-Seminar reading and writing assignments and a follow-up essay. The PROBE Program is offered remotely and in-depth engagement is expected from all participants.

Step 1: Enrollment - After your enrollment form, tuition, and referring organization documents have been received and reviewed, you will receive confirmation of enrollment. Please allow approximately seven business days.

Step 2: Preparation & Assignments - Approximately three weeks prior to the start of the seminar, you will receive an e-mail with a link to the syllabus, which must be read prior to the seminar start date. The e-mail will also contain links to two assignments that must be completed in advance of the seminar.

Step 3: Online Seminar - The Seminar begins with a two-hour evening session, followed by a full day, then a final half-day session. Discussions and case analyses help you explore the meaning of ethics in your field and foster a renewed commitment to professional ideals.

Step 4: Follow Up Essay - After the Seminar, you will submit a final essay that shows your understanding of the Seminar content and the ability to apply the content to your situation. Guidance and support for completing this assignment are provided through detailed written instructions and verbal advice from faculty.

Step 5: Completion & Grade - Participants receive a certificate of completion and a final grade at the conclusion of the Program. All participants receive a final grade that will be either Unconditional Pass, Conditional Pass, or Fail.

Note: Many licensing boards and credentialing bodies will require a grade of Unconditional Pass in order to fulfill the requirements of their orders or agreements.

Step 6: PROBE Plus Follow Up - PROBE Plus is a personalized, in-depth, six-month follow-up module to the PROBE Program, providing six months of structured interaction between the participant and the faculty member.

With its curriculum of scheduled one on one meetings with faculty, readings, discussions, literature searches, and writing assignments, you can think of PROBE Plus as an ethics coaching and ongoing evaluation program. Please note that PROBE Plus is a separate program with separate fees.

The faculty mentor will provide interim feedback to the referring entity if requested or as needed. At the end of the six months, faculty generate a summative letter of evaluation to assess the participant’s overall level of success and confer a final grade of either Pass or Fail. Both the participant and the referring entity receive the final evaluation. Formal reports generated following the Seminar, are detailed and insightful, providing referring organizations with essential information that informs decision-making.

Participation in PROBE is confidential. CPEP does not discuss a participant with any parties except those for whom a participant-signed release is on file. Note: Most regulatory bodies or referring organizations will require participants to sign a release.

While sharing and addressing confidential information among participants and faculty during the Seminar is essential to the success of the Seminar, any acknowledgment or discussion of confidential information outside of the meeting room is explicitly prohibited by mutual agreement at the outset of the session.
