Most participants are referred by a regulatory or credentialing authority, while others are referred by attorneys or contact us on their own.

Our assessments are designed for healthcare professionals including Physicians, Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Nurses, and Podiatrists.

CPEP offers an in-depth evaluation and education program tailored to the professional’s specialty and practice. The assessment portion identifies areas of educational need and provides participants with the opportunity to demonstrate clinical competence. From that we may develop personalized educational plans addressing those needs.

We offer objective screening or in-depth evaluation to ensure a healthcare professional is safe to practice.

Designed for health system credentialing bodies, these personalized evaluations of potential “new hires” are designed to ensure clinicians meet the institution’s standards for quality of care.

As with our clinical skills/competence assessments, each Privileging Screen is tailored to the clinician’s specific specialty and scope of practice.

While most of CPEP’s assessments can be done remotely, some assessments include technical simulations that must be completed in-person. In addition, CPEP can conduct assessments in-person at the request of a referring organization, such as a regulator or credentialing body.

CPEP’s suite of surgical simulations are designed to evaluate the clinician’s motor and technical skills as well as their knowledge and judgment.

• Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS): measures cognitive knowledge, case/problem management skills and manual dexterity. (Available in simulation labs across North America).
• Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES): tests basic endoscopic skills required in the practice of flexible endoscopy and includes cognitive and technical skills. (Available in simulation labs across North America).
• General Surgery/Open Surgery/Trauma: realistic scenarios which can be adapted for various open surgical case presentations and critical situations. Pre-, Intra- and Post-operative skills are evaluated. (Available in Denver only).

CPEP’s Obstetric Medicine simulations utilize high-fidelity robotic mannequins in a realistic delivery room setting. The simulations involve various birthing scenarios and complications including, but not limited to:

• Shoulder dystocia
• Uterine rupture
• Post-partum hemorrhage.

CPEP’s Anesthesiology simulations test physicians’ abilities in a variety of scenarios and are designed to evaluate skills including, but not limited to:

• Difficult mask ventilation
• Difficult intubation
• Rapid sequence induction and others

These simulations are conducted using high-fidelity mannequins in a realistic surgical setting.

Fitness for Duty Evaluations include all of the elements of clinical skills/competence assessments (examination of clinician’s knowledge, judgment, and skills) but place added emphasis on the clinician’s physical health, mental health, and cognitive abilities. This added emphasis may include:

• A full neuropsychological workup by a PhD neuropsychologist
• Independent physical and/or mental health evaluation
• A functional capacity evaluation by an occupational therapist. This evaluation focuses on the clinician’s motor skills and physical stamina.

As with our clinical skills/competence assessments, each Fitness for Duty evaluation is tailored to the clinician’s specific needs.

CPEP’s Clinical Skills Assessments (and related Programs) are available in-person or remotely. All CPEP assessments are customized to your needs and situation, and may include:

• Structured Clinical Interviews
• Simulated Patient Encounters
• Chart Reviews
• Multiple Choice Exams
• Cognitive Screen
• EKG or Fetal Monitoring Strip Exam
• Procedure Simulations

When appropriate, CPEP may design a custom education plan that focuses on the areas of improvement identified in the assessment. That plan may include reviews of evidence-based literature, accredited CME activities, and working with a preceptor. The need for such a plan is determined by the results of the assessment as well as the requirements of your referring organization.
